Ridgeside K9 is a veteran-owned business. Our company brings realism to the pet dog training world that is unmatched in the industry. Ridgeside K9 believes there is no “one size fits all” approach to dog training. Each dog and owner are evaluated for issues and their personal goals. Every training package is customized to meet your goals and your dog’s training threshold. We use a mix of marker training, free shaping, and classical and operant conditioning to establish real-world, measurable, and reliable obedience and control. Caleb Stevenhagen

Owner & Head Dog Trainer

Caleb is originally an Ohio native but found his way to Maryland via the Navy. Caleb enlisted in the military following college and spent his term working in Navigation and as a ship-board Search and Rescue Swimmer. Following his military career, Caleb attended schooling to become a K9 Handler and Trainer. He currently holds the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA) Certificate, American K9 Interdiction (AK9I) Narcotic Detection Certification, AK9I Explosives Detection Certification, and American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Approved Evaluator. He launched his training career with ownership of his own training business which specialized in the training and procurement of working dogs. In 2020, Caleb stepped away from the working dog world and dove fully into pet training. He had worked for several local companies before joining the Ridgeside K9 family.

For the past 8-years he has worked with hundreds of dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments; he is constantly expanding his understanding and knowledge of dogs by attending seminars and working groups led by some of the biggest names in the industry and adapting to new and emerging training methods. In 2024, with his wife Shelbie, he made the jump to location ownership with Ridgeside K9 Central Maryland.

Owner & Dog Trainer

Shelbie is a US Navy veteran who began her dog training career working closely with her husband Caleb in his working dog business. Her professional career after the military and her work with Caleb allowed to grow her understanding of dog training and business practices. In 2020 she joined the Ridgeside family, working full time as a dog trainer. During her time with Ridgeside, she specialized in obedience training and behavior modification for highly anxious and fearful dogs. She is constantly working on improving her training skills and becoming more knowledgeable by attending seminars and working session with some of the industry leaders. Shelbie currently holds the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Approved Evaluator certification.
